This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.
You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.
Why do this?
- Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
- Because it will help you focus your own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.
The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.
To help you get started, here are a few questions:
- Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
- What topics do you think you’ll write about?
- Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
- If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?
You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.
Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.
When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
I have been a fan of this blog for a while and therefore super excited to share this interview with you guys! Be sure to check out the blog- as always it will be linked below. I’ve lived all over the world, but I’m currently in India. My blog is sort of a cocktail of every single niche out there; it’s kind of hard to describe! I simply talk about whatever is on my mind at the moment. I write about music, movies, cooking, poetry, psychology- you name it! My blog, quite simply put, is the confessions of a random bloger. I started my blog in September 2009, there was another time and no WordPress.com yet. Two years am I waking on this blog up. I was going through a lot mentally, and I really just needed a creative outlet. I needed a place where I could say whatever I wanted without feeling like I was burdening the people around me. I’ve also always loved writing- many of my blogs have been drafts sitting in my notes app for years that I didn’t know what to do with. So, I decided to start my own blog, you can see: sbarszczak2009.com
My long term blogging goals are just to be consistent. Maintaining a blog while trying to manage university can be extremely difficult. However, if I’m dreaming bigger, I would love to be featured in larger forms of media such as magazines and newspapers. Maybe even write for you my own book someday? A couple of months ago I was able to become a professional blogger. Though I am author of a lot of books. I’ve never had good electronic equipment, much less an iPhone. You will say it is a pity, but I have never dreamed of a professional blog, that I would become a blogger in my sixties. At 60 I accomplished so much and continues to keep going which is so inspiring! I hope you my readers enjoy my texts and take some time to check out my modest blog which will be linked below. I originally started this on WordPress.com as a dedicated time for bloggers to come together to share their work, make new connections, and expand their blog audience. I started blogging seriously in 2021, in Poland we were under a lockdown, I wanted something to keep me busy and distract me from the outside world that’s when I figured blogging would help me sail through those moments. I didn’t only help me sail through the pandemic, it also became part of me. Initially, I wanted it to be my health journal to trace my own progress health-wise and help my readers at the same time. Nothing changed, I am still working with the initial and premium plans.
I’ve always focused on the positive side, I can’t think of any pet peeve I have come across or let’s just say I have not been around long enough. My favourite food is chicken prepared in any way. What animal would I love to have as a pet if I could have any animal in the world as a pet? I would still choose a dog. Dogs are outgoing, friendly and intelligent, I just love them. What is my current favourite tv show? Breaking News will always be my favourite, the creativity behind it is unmatched. I also love animes. Dear Readers You are my happy friends! This weekend, I again open up WordPress.com for another Meet & Greet event. Remember, this is your moment to shine! I originally started this on WordPress as a dedicated time for bloggers to come together to share their work, make new connections, and expand their blog audiences. The guidelines, like always, are simple…
